MiKE H. O’Neill, Director, Analytical Chemistry at Olon USA LLC, gave a scientific lecture about Analytical Chemistry in Early-Stage Drug Development at Case Western Reserve University, US.
The presentation gave an overview of the drug development process noting some of the key developmental milestones, introducing also some of the common types of analytical technologies used during development of small molecule active pharmaceutical ingredients. The talk highlighted the importance of Solid-Form screening which aims to improve the physicochemical properties and developability of nascent drug candidates.
Mike’s team is responsible for characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients, method development, preformulation, stability, quality control, and solid-state form screening. Mike has been named as an inventor on more than 35 patent applications regarding the solid forms of drugs and processes to control drug characteristics.
